Garden: balcony happinessSustainable gardening means, no pesticides. I like a dwarf lilac tree, and had a great time with a bunch of poppey seeds from Pender Island (2006). Our view over a tree covenant (habitat protected area) of many interesting native species trees, bushes la la la means outdoor enjoyment with multiple facets.
Garden: Rose's Balcony of RelaxationWe just moved to a new apartment. Eastern exposure, almost total shade, so the marigolds & Martha Washington geranium I brought with me are not happy! Neither is my succulent planter. So I guess next year, it will be lots of coleus (love coleus), impatients, begonias, ferns, whatever I find suitable, I guess. There's not even much light for my houseplants.
Garden: CitrusmanI grow container citrus, from seeds, and eventually from cuttings and through grafts. I have a balcony full of tomato plants, peppers, and herbs. I love my garden and the rewards of seeing it grow are inexplicable. Trying to get some lemon and lime trees started, but I don't know if they'll survive the winter.
Garden: BalconyI have a balcony garden and grow flowers and some vegetables.
Garden: Pinard on SeaPrivate indigenous beach garden and balcony garden at Pinard on Sea Neighborhood Boutique Hotel in Bloubergstrand, South Africa.
Garden: Condo Vegetable ExperimentalMy home garden is a balcony container garden in the summertime, a cold-frame and indoor germination clutter in the spring, and, in the late fall and wintertime, an indoor/outdoor experimental garden featuring a mini-greenhouse and AeroGarden. Gardening is in me, every season
Garden: Casa de OrzalesI have an enclosed garden surrounded by stone walls. It consists of two parts, one is lawned with three central flower beds, a further flower bed running next to the wall and three trees, The lower garden is again lawned with a separate vegetable plot and one flower bed, There is a small herb garden and I also have several balcony plants and container plants.
Garden: From Long Island, US to Hong KongMy ex-garden in Long Island,New York was on a good size of land. A lotus pond with lotus, waterlily and Koi fish; Tree Peony, Coreopsis, Japanese Maple, Pines, Dogwoods, Azalea, roses and Clementis... Spring, summer, fall, winter, spring... enchanting
to see the seasons change.
Now I move to Hong Kong in which private land garden is almost not existing, only with a hot and a cool season. It is a big void without any plant life around, so I created this balcony garden to fill the void - from 8000 sq ft to 38 sq ft - what a drastic
change! But that little sacred space capsulizes the universal joy of gardening -

Garden: Greedy hotchpotchI am still in the process of breaking in the soil, putting in my favourite plants in a tiny piece of the garden and populating a big long balcony with things that can survive the full sun of the Italian summer. This spring I should see my first tulips, lillies, narcissus, paeonies, irises and alliums blooming. I should also see the Daphne, Osmanthus, Magnolia Stellata, Clematis Armaandi, the various types of clematis patens and rhododendrons put in at least a little bit of a show on the balcony...Of course there is always the chance that some of these will not like the Full sun treatment on the balcony but I will find out this year.
I need to describe the Vegetable and fruit area as well but I will leave that to later.
Garden: Irina's balconyI don't have a garden yet. I have just started by seeding some pots. We'll see what comes out of it.

Dean Sparrewath NielsenAvid apartment gardener and composter. Trying to learn about growing food and plants by growing at home. Concerned about the conditions of our atmosphere, therefor trying to minimize the amount of householdwaste which leaves the apartment and ends up at the landfill. Landfills often release methanegasses due to anaerobic decomposition and methane damage our atmosphere heavily. Biodegradeable householdwaste goes directly into the apartment compost.

Wendy & RickThough gardening is in my blood, coming from several generations of gardeners on my mother's side of the family, I haven't had the opportunity to do more than grow houseplants and do a bit of container gardening on a balcony. Now we're loving our "real" garden, and are delighted watching it thrive!

Nicole MayHave been planting various annuals in pots since I located to an Apt.Tried my hand at planting perennials in pots too.Much prefer to have the garden space I once had,not that balcony gardening can't be just as beautiful.
Garden Photo:Native Plant Rescue - July 4, 2009. Development site for Future Elementary, UniverCity, Burnaby (Burnaby Mountain).
See: Trillium Ovatum (western trillium), Streptopus amplexifolius (Clasping Twisted Stalk Lily), Viola spp. (viola), Blechnum spican (deer fern) Vaccinium parvifolium, (red huckleberry), and small cedar!. I wasn't hopeful. My balcony is facing South, with a very generous overhang to provide the shade these plants needed. The large huckleberry is my biggest concern.
Garden Photo:The two 90Litre containers I currently use for composting. They are located at the balcony which faces east. The bottom container is full, covered over and set for maturing. The top container is slowly getting filled with compostable matter. Leaves, paper, cardboard, kitchen waste - anything which has been "alive" in the past few years will do as compostable matter.
Through composting, the amount of waste from the apartment has gone from 1 medium bag/week to 1 small bag/month - about 75%.
